More little things

Today the duct cleaners came (and said how disgusting the ducts were--predicting that they'd NEVER been cleaned). Mom opted for the sanitizing option--probably a good choice!

I finished installing the rest of the interior doorknobs (except for on the two doors that I forgot about).

Mom sealed the grout in the bathroom.

We moved a few things around (put all three dressers in the Master Bedroom) and called to arrange for someone to look at the water heater, and for our friend Artie (the electrician) to come back and finish things up soon.

Tomorrow Home Depot comes to measure for the cabinets.

Felipe is done!

Felipe came today for the "last" time (I'm sure we'll have him do more stuff in the future, but this part of his work is done) and did some touch-up and clean-up. Nothing much to show photo-wise except for the EMPTY garage! And yes, it did look even worse ;)

[I can't believe I didn't take a picture of it full! It had all the plumbing (toilet, sink, bathtub) and drywall and cabinets in addition to bags and bags of other crap just PILED in it. blechhh....]

More work on bathroom and kitchen

Felipe came and "finished" up the bathroom. (we still have to put towel racks, TP holder, etc.)

He hung the over-the-toilet organizer:
And put on the baseboard trim:
The he finished the bamboo floor in the dining room:
And kitchen:
He's got work elsewhere for two days, but will be back on Thursday to finish up other things. Mom called to get someone from Home Depot to measure for the cabinets, so things are rolling that way, too.

Just a bunch of little stuff to go (hanging curtains, putting on trim, getting the carpet person in).

New Kitchen Window

G. put in the new kitchen window today. It looks GREAT!

From the outside:

From the inside:

All the trim needs touch-up, but we'll wait on that.

Other than that, I returned the rest of the stuff that needed returning (at this point) to Lowe's, Home Depot and Walmart and I picked up some more little stuff--including curtains for the living room! (finally found 5 matching pair)

On to the kitchen

Felipe did some more touch-up on the bathroom today, and then painted the kitchen:
And the living room around the opening:
And he started laying the bamboo floor:
It is going to look SO nice! I'm especially jealous of the bamboo floor. :)

We have doors!

The entry doors were installed today.

Back door from the outside:
and from the inside:
Front door from the outside:

and from the inside:
Other than that, Felipe continued to work on making the bathroom look perfect ;)

We picked up the special order window for the kitchen and have to clear everything out of the kitchen and dining room so that Felipe can begin installing the floor tomorrow.

A pot to @&$% in!

Felipe and Augustine did a lot more work today.

The biggest news is that Mom does, in fact, have a pot to pee in! :)
She also has a shower door to keep the water in:
And a medicine cabinet to keep the medicine in:
She has a new front screen door:
And she has a plan for all the rest of the work that Felipe will do on the house.

Falling into the category of "the least I could do" is this:
I primed the bathroom door and painted the trim (we were originally going to trash the whole door, but it's salvagable!

Later in the Day

Felipe installed the vanity and attached the plumbing:
He attached the grab bars in the shower:
And he finished installing the back screen door:
If you don't remember how hideous the old screen door was, you can see it here.

Pictures from yesterday

I went over this morning to remove the tape and take pictures.

The bathroom still needs touch-up, but:
Vanity assembled (not installed):
Toilet assembled (but not installed):Front door stained (but not varnished):

No pictures, but...

Today Felipe came back and did a TON of stuff. He:

*put another coat of plaster on everything in the kitchen
*grouted the tile on the floor and around the shower
*installed one screen door
*put together (but didn't install) the toilet and vanity

G and I painted the bathroom tonight (we had a busy day and didn't get to it until about 3:30). We primed, painted the ceiling white, and painted the walls with the orange paint.

Right now the bathroom is all taped up, so no pictures until tomorrow!

Moving right along...

Felipe was back today for a lot more work.

He straightened the kitchen opening (and apologized--one of his other workers didn't follow directions):
He did a LOT of drywall touch-up and layering and some sanding--he'll be back tomorrow morning to finish that.

And they finished the tile around the tub:
You can't see it in the pictures, but the glass block people did not set the window correctly or straight and Felipe had to shave thin little slices of tile to cram between the bullnose and the window. Not only that, but uneven thin little slices as the top of the window leans in more than the bottom of the window! UGH!

Here's the trim around the shower. They'll lay the rest of the baseboard after we paint. And (now for panic), we have to paint TOMORROW! Felipe will be back in the morning to finish the drywall sanding and he'll want to do the grout on Wednesday, so we have to paint tomorrow.

Mom and I went to Home Depot today and she picked out the paint colors (both for the bathroom and the kitchen). She chose "Apple Crisp" (on the right below) for the bathroom and "Chai Latte" (on the left) for the kitchen.

Two steps forward, one back....

No pictures today, but Artie came and fixed the electrical. There was a short in the bathroom junction box and he fixed it and then moved the box up into the attic.

On the bad side, G. noticed today that the opening in the kitchen/living room wall is uneven. One edge of it is half an inch shorter than the other edge. I hope that's fixable... :(

More tile

Felipe and his "crew" came again today to do some work.

They did more drywall sanding and filling.Unfortunately, he said we got ripped off on the glass block window. The installer left the (rotting) wood frame and did a sloppy job installing, and it will be a LOT of work for Felipe to do the tile around the window. But he worked hard and I think it looks great. Here's a shot of the wall tile and the floor tile (same pattern--different sizes):
Here's a close-up of the window trim. They have the back wall done, but not the sides yet.
And a close-up of the detail in the trim:
In other news, Kit Kat seems to be settling in and getting comfortable. Her personality has changed a lot, too, as she's much happier to have someone/anyone pet her and play with her. The kids are enjoying that a lot.
Tomorrow Artie comes to work on the electrical and then Monday Felipe will be back. He thinks we'll be able to paint this week!

Glass Block window installed!

Today the glass block window was installed in the bathroom:

And the bank's appraiser came to look at the basement (after the foundation work was done). Mom talked to him about her forty up North and he might be interested... :)

Other than that, we just have some shopping to do before Felipe comes back on Saturday (the toilet, shower door, some more tile, etc.)

Tile on the floor!

First, a photo of the steel support beams put in the basement (and some tuckpointing done on the foundation):

Felipe and his workers were here for a few hours today. They worked on the vent that ran through the wall section he took out. He put in an angle type duct that will eventually end on the floor in the living room--in front of the bar:
They put more mud on the kitchen ceiling:
As well as on the bathroom walls.

Here's a picture of the plumbing done below the bathtub (looking up from the basement:
And (most exciting of all) here's the tile on the bathroom floor:
(it's not grouted yet, but it has to sit for a few days first).

Unfortunately, we realized at some point yesterday that there was no longer power going to a few outlets, the new kitchen ceiling light, and the radon pump in the basement! Our friend Artie (the electrician) will come this weekend to try to fix it.

And Mom and I did some shopping. She found some big area rugs, but still no luck on curtain rods and curtains for the living room.

Contractors get SO much more done!

In the last two days, we've had a bunch of contractors in to do work.

Yesterday the Radon Remediation guy put in a Radon Reduction System. Here's the pump and vent on the outside of the house:
and the tube going from the foundation to the outside:
Here's the crock that holds gray water, with a clear cover:
And the traditional, drain-tile crock with the regular cover:And the basement foundation guys came and put in steel beams to support the basement wall that had some movement. I forgot to take a picture of the whole wall with beams, but you can see two of the support beams behind the sump pump crock in the picture above.

Today the guy who did our neighbor's bathroom started his work on the bathroom and kitchen. We met him at Home Depot at 8:00 am to buy materials. By the end of the day, he (and his two workers) had accomplished a LOT! They removed the old tub and put in the new one:
And they put green board all around the walls and over where the tile will be:And green board on the ceiling:
Then they took out the kitchen pantry and patched that area, as well as the ceiling holes:
And opened up the wall between the kitchen and living room. Here's looking from kitchen into living room (Hi, Mom!):
And looking from living room into kitchen:Tomorrow we have to go buy a lot of stuff to have put in, including the tile, toilet, sink, vanity, faucets, etc. This is getting to be fun!
