No pictures today (nothing's quite finished), but we did little bits of a lot of things.
First, the closets...
All the shelves, hooks, and bars in each closet were yucky. We've been soaking the hardware for 12 hour blocks in Mr. Clean, and wiping off the paint and varnish. We were planning to take out the shelves and prime and paint them, too, (though it would take several coats of each, new roller covers, and a new gallon of the semi-gloss paint) but then G. came up with the great idea of replacing them entirely with that melamine-coated pre-fab board stuff. So we went to Menard's and bought lengths of the white boards (for the bedroom and living room closet) and wood-looking boards (for the cedar closet). G. cut them to size and we installed them. Finally, we found white plastic sleeves designed to cover a shower curtain rod, and put those over the yucky old closet rods! (unfortunately, the Menards we went to only had two, so we'll have to hit another Menards tomorrow for three more).
Pictures tomorrow, when they're all (hopefully) back together.
We were going to start taping the trim in preparation for painting the walls, but the trim is still a bit sticky, so we decided to run the air conditioner overnight to get out some of the humidity.
While at Menards, we also picked up a big bag of Weed and Feed and spread it on the front, back, and side yards. All the yards are overrun with dandelions and thistles and other broad-leaved weeds. Maybe a few applications of the Weed and Feed will kill them off before we haul in more dirt to level the yard.
Finally, G. cleaned off the porch. I cannot believe how much better it looks! It's a really neat porch and will be a great place to sit now that all the bushes are gone from around it!
